The Mermaid’s Pendant is, for all intents and purposes, an engagement ring in the style of Stardew Valley. To get a potential beau to go on a date with you, you give them a Bouquet. To get someone to marry you, you give them a Mermaid’s Pendant.

Before you can give anyone a Mermaid’s Pendant, you’ll need to do a couple of things:

  • Reach level 10 friendship with your desired spouse by giving them a Bouquet when they reach level 8 friendship
  • Purchase and complete the first Farmhouse upgrade

There is only one way to get a Mermaid’s Pendant in Stardew Valley, and you’ll only be able to get one after repairing the bridge to the eastern side of the Beach using 300 Wood. Once you’ve done this, you’ll have to wait for a rainy day.

On any rainy day in Spring, Summer, or Fall, the Old Mariner will show up in the treeline to the north of the small, now accessible island. He’ll be there from 6 a.m. until 7 p.m., and will sell the Mermaid’s Pendant for 5,000 Gold. He can also show up during Winter, but only if a Rain Totem is used to force spawn the rain on any day other than those taken up by the Night Market

The Old Mariner will still show up if you’re already married or have a housemate, but he will not sell you another Mermaid’s Pendant unless you get divorced from your current spouse. If you’re engaged to your future spouse, but not yet married, you can return to the Old Mariner to buy another Mermaid’s Pendant.

Once you’ve got a Mermaid’s Pendant, you can give it to anyone with a 10-heart friendship, but if you give one to someone while already married, they’ll call you out for your questionable actions.
