How to get the “A Half Times Two” hairstyle in Final Fantasy XIV

So one, then?

Changing your hairstyle is one of the easiest ways to mix up your look in Final Fantasy XIV. All it takes is a visit to Jandelaine, 2,000 Gil, and a little tweaking to get something that’s indescribably you.

New hairstyles are added to FFXIV relatively often, and some of the latest new additions are winning entries from the Hairstyle Design Contest which was held back in 2023. The latest of these new hairstyles is called A Half Times Two, and it’s remarkably pretty, although you’ll need to put a fair amount of effort into getting it, or otherwise have seemingly bottomless pockets filled with Gil.

Realistically speaking, there are two different options if you want to try and get your hands on the new hairstyle. If you want to skip over all of the hard work and have a veritable vault filled with riches, you can purchase Modern Aesthetics – A Half Times Two on the marketboard.

However, this is an incredibly costly thing to do. As a relatively hard to come by item, the hairstyle is currently sitting comfortably between 24 and 50 million, depending on your server. This price is likely to decrease somewhat in future, but it’s unlikely to ever be cheap, so you’ll need to part with your hard earned funds if you want to purchase it this way.

The “official” way to get the “A Half Times Two” hairstyle is via successful completion of the newly added “Cloud of Darkness (Chaotic)” raid. You’ll be able to access this duty after completing the following things:

  • Complete the MSQ up to and including the level 100 quest “Dawntrail”
  • Talk to the Wandering Minstrel in Tulliyolal (X:11.2, Y:14.7)

After doing that, you’ll be able to find The Cloud of Darkness (Chaotic) in the High-end Duty section of the Duty Finder.

Completing the raid will result in multiple drops, but the one you want to get if you want the hairstyle is Clouddark Materia II. This drops with each successful run, and you’ll need a total of 49 of them.

When you’ve got 49 Materia, head to Solution Nine and talk to Uah’shepya (X:8.6, Y:13.5) in the Nexus Arcade. The hairstyle can be located in the Sublime Curiosities subcategory.

There are a couple of ways to speed up the rate at which you can gather Clouddark Demimateria II:

  • First Time Bonus:
    • For each person in the party completing the duty for the first time, an additional two Clouddark Demimateria II will be rewarded to each player. This means that if each of all 24 people are running the duty for the first time, everyone would immediately get the required 49 Clouddark Demimateria II and be able to purchase the hairstyle.
  • Limited Time Bonus:
    • Randomly occurring bonus which increases the rate at which tokens and Demimateria drop from the duty. This bonus will stay active for a few hours at a time, so it’s always worth checking whether it’s currently active when looking to farm out some Demimateria.

It’s worth noting that Clouddark Demimateria II is also required if you want to get the Dais of Darkness mount:

The mount costs 99 Clouddark Demimateria II, so you’ll need a total of 148 if you want to get both items.
