Tired of looking like a bum in Starfield? Eager to let everyone know that you mean business the moment you walk into a room? Then you need a cowboy hat. Nothing screams cool and impending violence quite like a cowboy hat, so if you want to really lean into the idea of being a Ranger in the Freestar Collective, then this is how to do it.

How to get a cowboy hat in Starfield

To get a cowboy hat in Starfield, you can make your way to Akila City on Cheyenne. You will need to go there as part of the Empty Nest quest, and the first thing to do there is actually talk down some bank robbers. When that is complete, you will get an invite to a bar up the street called The Rock. This is where the Freestar Collective Rangers hang out and is also where you can get your new hat.

Head inside, then go up to the third floor. You will come to a hallway with a door on the right and a woman sitting in a chair. You need her to leave, as she will see you if you take the hat. Sit down beside her and pass the time by an hour until she gets up to go. When that happens, head into the room, and you will find the cowboy hat in the middle locker at the back of the room. It is called the Homesteader Scout Hat.

Now, go into your apparel section and put on your new hat. Be prepared to look awesome, by the way. The last thing to think about is what you want to wear with the hat. I’d suggest the Ranger outfit that you get when you join the Rangers, as it looks the part. There is also a Settler Poncho Outfit in a locker on the second floor that looks good with it.

No good cowboy is without a great weapon, so you may want to consider visiting Rowland Arms on the main street of Akila City, just up from the bar, and buying the Elegance. This fearsome weapon will shred enemies with its insane rate of fire. There is also the Deadeye, a very ornate pistol you get for joining the Rangers in the first place.
