How to fly in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet

It's simple once you know what to do,

Whether your companion Pokemon is Koraidon or Miraidon, you’ll have access to many neat traversal upgrades in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet. By completing objectives in the Path of Legends story path, you’ll unlock the ability to climb mountains and even glide around Paldea. But what about full-on flight?

Fortunately, as of the release of the Pokemon Scarlet & Violet: The Indigo Disk, you can now fly with your partner Pokemon. However, note that unlocking this feature is no walk in the park. First, you have to purchase the Hidden Treasure of Area Zero DLC bundle, which you want to make sure corresponds to the version of the game you’re playing. Next, you need to beat both the main story of Pokemon Scarlet & Violet and The Teal Mask DLC just to access The Indigo Disk. Once you see the credits roll at the end of The Indigo Disk, you’ll finally have the ability to unlock flight.

To be specific, make sure to keep playing after the credits sequence. You’ll see a few new objectives appear around Blueberry Academy, so you want to meet up with the room Amarys is in. Talk to her, and a scene will play out which ultimately culminates in your partner Pokemon mastering the power of flight. Additionally, you’ll unlock the Super-Hard Flight Time Trial Course, so check that out to get some extra BP!

What are the flying controls in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet?

So actually engaging in flight is a little convoluted if you don’t know how to do it already. Fortunately, flight works in every world map area, so you aren’t limited to just flying in the Terarium or anything like that. Here’s the exact steps to start flying once you have it unlocked.

1: Ride your Partner Pokemon using the + button
2: Jump up into the air with the B button.
3: Press the B button again to begin gliding.
4: Afterwards, press the left joystick.

This will let you properly fly, and you can control your altitude by holding up or down on the left joystick. Clicking the joystick directly down again will put you into gliding mode again, and pressing the B button will disengage it entirely. Just keep in mind there are some limits. For example, Mesagoza has boundaries on where you can fly, and flying too high in Paldea will reset you to your original starting point. Guess you need the Sandwich glitch that takes you to the moon if you want to reach space.

Enjoy your newfound ability to fly!
