How to fix XDefiant’s controller not working glitch

Not ideal if you want to play well.

XDefiant‘s launch has been rocky, to say the least, and while players are now getting into matches, there are issues with controllers not working that leave you unable to play. Here’s what you can do to fix them.

When XDefiant was released worldwide on May 21, FPS fans rushed to get into the game and try out the supposed “CoD killer,” only to be unable to find matches and get kicked off the servers. Once they finally got into matches, they discovered that their controllers wouldn’t work, leaving them unable to move around or aim their guns.

Now, in my expert opinion, not being able to move or aim in an FPS game is not a good recipe for success, so if you’re struggling with this problem, here’s what you can do to fix it.

Restart the game

It may sound like the easiest answer, but having studied and worked in IT, the simple answers are often the right ones. If the game isn’t working and your controller isn’t doing anything, simply restart the game.

Unplug your controller

Sometimes I find that my controller doesn’t work if I don’t unplug it when the game is closed, plug it back in, and then open the game again. This is a constant issue on Call of Duty for me, but could help with XDefiant too.

Restart your PC

If restarting your game hasn’t worked, I would suggest restarting your PC. “Have you tried turning it off and on again?” isn’t just a meme from the IT Crowd, it’s a way of life for those of us cursed to fix people’s computers.

Use DS4Windows

If you’re using a PlayStation DualSense controller, Windows can sometimes struggle to pick it up and get it to work with games. That’s where DS4Windows comes in, an app that essentially tricks your computer into treating your PS controller like an Xbox one.
