How to fix the survive storm phases while carrying an epic weapon bug in Fortnite

Fortnite is back with a new quest that asks players to “survive storm phases while carrying a weapon of epic [purple] rarity of higher.” Sounds simple right? Well, it’s not! Due to several bugs it isn’t always going to pop even if you’re doing the exact thing the challenge is asking you to: which is a pain because it’s part of a series of quests throughout the season.

Fixing this one requires an old trick that the player base used to bust out when this happened in the past. Here’s a quick and easy rundown of what to do.

Follow these steps to fix the epic weapon bug

• Swap to the default pickaxe in the locker: picking another (rarer/epic) pickaxe can cause issues detecting the epic weapon
• Turn off preferred sorting in the options menu: this can sometimes create problems detecting the epic weapon you’re carrying
• Find an epic weapon at the start of the match (guaranteed spawn points for two Kinetic Blade Katanas are highlighted on the map in the gallery above, directly above Mega City)
• Ensure that this is the only epic weapon you have equipped, and wait out several storm phases in a safe spot
• Ding! You’ll pop the quest
