How to fix The Finals play button greyed out

The biggest enemy you face is the one that doesn't let you play.

The Finals is a live service game that regularly has maintenance periods, some server hiccups, and other factors that might add some downtime between your play sessions. Players have been experiencing an issue where they canā€™t start a game due to the Play button not being selectable.

Here, weā€™ll go over methods to fix the greyed-out play button in The Finals.

How to fix the greyed-out play button in THE FINALS

This can be caused by a few things that you may not have control of. So, itā€™ll be hard to locate what exactly is causing this. Sometimes, this can happen even after you just played a match. So try these methods in order until the problem is fixed.

Check for updates

After exiting from the game application, check to see if a new update has been deployed. If youā€™re told youā€™re on the latest version of the game, just proceed to go back in. Only on rare occasions will you need to install an update that requires you to be off the game for a bit unless an event or major known fix is coming, or if a new season is about to start.

Restart your game

This is usually the furthest youā€™ll have to go in terms of resolving this problem. Sometimes, the game just bugs out, so the tried-and-true method of ā€œturning it off and back onā€ can do just the trick.

Check your internet connection

As a precaution, you should check a site like Googleā€™s internet speed test or the one provided by Ookla to see how your connection is. If you are at 10 MBPS or more, you should be safe. But, your connection should also be stable. If there are hiccups or random drops, it could also be preventing you from playing online games in general.

Itā€™s recommended to play games online with a wired connection so you wonā€™t experience random drops or lag spikes. If you canā€™t, at least aim for higher speeds (if you can) to account for random dips in connection.

(On PC) End the Easy Anti-Cheat application

If you did restart your game and verify that The Finals is up-to-date, but still have the greyed-out Play button issue, end the gameā€™s anti-cheat program. Open up your Task Manager (CTRL + Shift + ESC) and locate the Easy Anti-Cheat application. Make sure your game is already closed before you do this.Ā

Once you terminate the program on your PC, try rebooting your game to see if the Play button is now selectable.

Check The Finalsā€™ social media accounts for any server outage updates

Typically, youā€™d only start to check the gameā€™s Twitter accounts if you have gone this far and still are facing that annoying Play button issue. Should there be any sort of server issues or technical problems on Embark Studiosā€™ side, they would announce it there with additional details.

Reinstall the game

Should things come down to this, you may have to re-download everything. Luckily, The Finals is a small game relative to todayā€™s AAA games, so it shouldnā€™t take so long. Download speeds may vary based on your internet connection and plans.
