How to fix the Destiny 2 Chicken error code

You can't play with this one.

Destiny 2 has some of the best-named error codes around. While all of them will prevent you from playing, their names can at least make you laugh through the pain. One of the strangest ones I’ve ever encountered is the Destiny 2 Chicken error code.

The Chicken error code in Destiny 2 is bizarre because the reasoning behind it doesn’t seem to line up with when players experience it. I’ve found this firsthand because the error is, broadly speaking, linked to your connection to the internet. However, I only saw it when my connection was fine, which leads me to believe it might be a bit of a catch-all for various problems around updates.

To fix the error code Chicken in Destiny 2, restart the device you’re playing on and try to get into the game again. A hard reset, turning the device off completely, leaving it for a minute or so, and then turning it back on before launching the game, usually works best.

If that doesn’t work, reset your wi-fi router and then try playing. I recommend pulling the wire out of your router’s back to kill the power, waiting 10 seconds, then plugging it back in and waiting for it to boot up before launching the game again. This is meant to remove even the residual electricity that can linger in the device because it isn’t prepared for shutdown and can, theoretically, correct unknown issues.

Finally, if that doesn’t work, you have two options. First, check that you aren’t experiencing a service outage with your provider using your phone. Second, plug your device directly into the router and use a wired connection to avoid any issues with the internet.

Of course, if none of these fixes work, which can happen, you just have to sit and wait. Destiny 2 is notorious for bugs and error codes around updates and expansion launches, so just wait out the storm and try playing again in an hour or two.

What is the Destiny 2 Chicken error code?

According to Bungie, the Destiny 2 Chicken error code is caused by a weak or interrupted internet connection. However, when I experienced it while trying to play the second week of Episode Echoes, my internet was fine. In fact, I was working away and could see the Wi-Fi working in multiple places around my house.

This leads me to believe that the Chicken error code in Destiny 2 is another secret catch-all error code. The fact that I got it around a weekly update when hundreds of players were all trying to get into the game shows me that the servers were likely under a lot of pressure.
