Although a Sim with max-level fishing skills can land the rarest fish quickly, you can consistently land these catches by using bait. Let’s get one step closer to completing your fishing collection log.

How to fish with Bait in The Sims 4

Withing with bait in The Sims 4 requires reaching level three fishing with one of your characters and having a fish, crop, or frog in their personal inventory. While using other fish is the easiest way once your Sim becomes more experienced, they can also look for frogs in ponds or harvest plants to collect fruits, vegetables, and flowers as bait.

Once your Sim has a fish, frog, or some produce in their inventory, select any pond or fishing sign and select “Fish with bait.” A menu will appear, prompting you to pick an item to use as bait. Each time you catch a fish, you’ll consume one unit of bait and return to regular fishing once you run out.

When should you use bait while fishing?

Although many fish, particularly low-level ones, don’t require any bait to catch, several rare species do. After reaching level three fishing, your character will unlock water-examining options that let you identify the location’s fish types. Using this information, you can figure out if there are any new ones to fish and try out some bait.

From here, it’s a matter of figuring out what fish you still need for your collection. Common ones like goldfish, guppies, and minnows appear just about anywhere, while rare ones like the Anglerfish may require you to visit secret areas like the Forgotten Grotto and Sylvan Glade. Others, like the Angelfish, also don’t need bait but are slightly harder to catch than common fish.

Despite this, fishing with bait will always increase your catch rates, regardless of the fish type or location. In other words, using bait is particularly helpful if you want to catch fish quickly, especially if your Sim is in a focused mood for increase EXP rates.
