Fortnite’s newest season has a returning chest type that can give tons of valuable rewards. However, unlocking this is more challenging than usual, as you first have to gain access through a scanner. Here’s how to unlock henchman chests so you can obtain their rewards.
How to open Henchman chests in Fortnite
Opening locked henchman chests in Fortnite requires wearing a henchman disguise. You can wear these disguises by entering red phone booths around the map, with The Rig, The Yacht, and The Doggpound having several.
The exact disguise type depends on your location: The Rig and The Yacht require the Shadow Henchman outfit, while The Doggpound chests use the Ghost Henchman variant. You’ll figure out what type a chest needs by attempting to open it and seeing either a “Shadow Henchman only” or “Ghost Henchman only” message.
Once you put on the right henchman disguise for your chosen treasure chests, the ID scanner will grant you access to its contents, allowing you to gain some valuable goodies. They usually contain epic and legendary-grade weapons and consumables, giving you some solid opportunities to get new items to try out. Similarly, you can unlock any doors blocked by ID scanners by wearing this disguise.
Another benefit to wearing henchman disguises is turning the other henchman NPCs passive. Normally, they’ll turn aggressive immediately if you approach them. Fortunately, most aren’t traitors and will avoid attacking fellow henchmen, allowing you to safely run around without any issues. Just be careful of other players since they’ll usually fight you without hesitation.
All Henchman chests in Fortnite
Although some henchman chests are automatically unlocked and available, most require a Ghost or Shadow henchman disguise. They also frequently spawn in The Rig, The Yacht, and The Doggpound, but other locations can also have them. Below is every henchman chest location.
Despite the map showing three main spawn locations for them, you can also visit Pleasant Park, the island north of Misty Meadows, and the areas north and south of Retail Row to find some extras. You’re less likely to find other players here, allowing you to get a head start on grabbing some strong weapons.
