An adorable little critter

Armadillos officially appeared in Minecraft on April 23, 2024, as part of the Armored Paws update. While its cuteness is enough to make anyone go out and find one, it also serves an important purpose. Here’s how to find and breed armadillos in Minecraft.

Where do Armadillos spawn in Minecraft Java and Bedrock Editions?

Armadillos spawn exclusively in badlands and savanna biomes. Like other passive creatures, they roam around these two biomes and their variations. Just be careful as you approach them, as sprinting or riding a horse will scare the armadillos, causing them to retreat into their shell.

By carefully walking toward an armadillo, you can see them walk around the biome, often in packs of two or three.

How to breed Armadillos in Minecraft

Breeding two armadillos requires getting your hands on some spider eyes. Each time you kill a spider or its poisonous variant, you have a one in three chance to get its eye, meaning you’ll have to kill a few to obtain enough for armadillo breeding.

Like other creatures, you can use spider eyes to corral your armadillos into a fenced-off area to create a farm. That way, if you’re eager to keep a few as pets, you can lead them to your home with spider eyes like you would a sheep, cow, or pig.

Once you have your spider eyes, use at least one eye on the two armadillos to begin the breeding process. After the two get to know each other, a baby will appear, to whom you can also give spider eyes to make them grow faster.

What do Armadillos do?

Alongside being adorable creatures, armadillos occasionally drop scutes, an item you can use to make wolf armor. If you have a wolf companion and want to take it with you on your Minecraft adventures, you can equip it with some wolf armor to boost its defence, similar to regular armor.
