How to farm Purple Velocipods in Warframe

Skate or die... on these bugs?

The Helminth is one of the more unique systems in Warframe, as being able to swap certain abilities onto other frames is a game-changer. To get started, you’ll need the ship segment, which requires five Purple Velocipod Tags. Here, I’ll explain how to farm Purple Velocipods in Warframe so you can get that shiny new Helminth Segment.

Farming Purple Velocipods for the Helminth

The Purple Velocipod is a certain animal species that roam around in the Cambion Drift in Deimos. Unlike the other fauna across every other open world, this lineage of animals doesnā€™t have a lure item to make them appear more often. Youā€™ll have to have a good eye to spot these specifically out in the wild.

This specific species of Velocipods is found in and around the Undulatum area in the Cambion Drift. Roam around the zone three times and hope that they spawn. If not, exit the open-world area and reload another instance of it. If you are on previous generation systems like the Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, or PS4, the task takes longer.

Make sure you also have your Tranq gun equipped. Before you use it to spot the creature, just have anything else equipped in the meantime. Once scoped in with the gun from afar, you cannot see the distinct purple glow it emits. Itā€™s easier to spot without zooming in from such a long ways out.

Tips to farm Purple Velocipods

Along with reloading the world to spawn batches of new units, bring a frame that‘s either really good at tanking or staying invisible. The Infested are very annoying to deal with when youā€™re trying to do anything besides killing them in the Cambion Drift. They have melee-focused attacks and create a lot of area-of-denial traps that can kill you if you arenā€™t aware of your surroundings.Ā

Then comes another problem to deal with. Avoid bringing weapons that deal area-of-effect damage. Doing so will most likely result in you killing your Velocipod targets, along with being scolded by Brother.

Thatā€™s why if you bring a frame that can tank a lot of damage, you can ignore all of the Infested attacks without having to kill anything. You can just shoot the tranq dart at the Velocipods and go on with your day.

If you bring a stealth frame like Loki, Ivara, or Ash, you can ignore and remove most aggro from the enemies in the region. While staying invisible, itā€™s easy to isolate your target and reap the rewards. However, just make sure you have a good source of energy upkeep to maintain your invisibility.

Lastly, this may just be a lesser-known glitch right now, but donā€™t use the Equinox Rest trick on Velocipods. Performing the ability to make the animal sleep does not actually make it fall asleep. Typically, when you perform this method, it bypasses the need to use the Tranq Rifle.Ā

When you perform the Rest ability, instead of capturing it, youā€™ll instead be given the option to ride the Velocipod like a K-Drive. Youā€™ll wake it up upon riding it after Resting it. If you then try to tranquilize it after, itā€™ll clip through the ground, making you unable to interact with it at all.

For now, just bring out the handy Tranq gun, and happy hunting!
