How to expose Lucas in Chapter 4 of Life is Strange: Double Exposure

Time for some just desserts

Every game needs a villain, and Life is Strange: Double Exposure has a few different options, depending on how you view the characters and their actions. Lucas, for one thing, has made some disastrous choices even in the short time we’ve known him.

But it goes further than that. Lucas has been making terrible decisions for at least the four years since he decided to plagiarize one of his students’ work. The move led to huge success for him, but for Maya, it led to depression and, ultimately, her death at her own hands.

Thankfully, things start to come together in Chapter 4 of Double Exposure, and Max and Safi, backed by Vinh and Gwen, team up to expose him for the liar and cheat he really is.

This can be broken down into a few different parts that need to be completed before you move on to the pivotal choice of this scene:

  • Get Vinh and Gwen on side
  • Sabotage the projector

How to get Gwen and Vinh on your side

Thankfully, Safi and Max decide to decide and conquer on this front, although that may be more to do with the fact that Safi and Gwen have some bad blood between them rather than a logical strategy decision.

While Safi agrees to talk to Vinh, it’s up to you to get Gwen on board. It’s a really easy conversation, and you don’t even have any dialogue decisions to make, as Gwen will decide that she’s sick of not standing for something, and the downfall of Lucas is a great thing to stand for.

This part is likely to pose the biggest problems, although it’s nothing a little timeline-hopping can’t fix.

Firstly, talk directly to Reggie to get him to abandon his post as projector guard. You can either tell him that you need his help for a prank or that you’ll watch the projector yourself. Sadly, neither option will work, so it’s time for a backup plan.

Thankfully, Moses is great with technology, and Max knows that if something were to go wrong with the projector, he’d be the only one who could fix it. Bonus points that you have a whole other Moses to help you from the other timeline.

Head to the bathrooms and use the portal to hop over to the Dead World and talk to Moses, who will offer to give you instructions that you’ll be able to follow using the Pulse ability. With the new plan in place, head back to the Living World and approach the projector. There will be a new option to tamper with it, but you’ll need to distract Reggie first.

To do this, it’s time to enlist Diamond’s help. She’s on a tabletop gaming date with Moses, but interacting with the projector again will allow you to text her, dragging her into distracting Reggie. She’ll start a group chat and either tell him that he missed an assignment or that she has nudes of Vinh, depending on your choice. Either way, Reggie will be very much distracted, allowing you to temporarily break the projector.

When looking at the projector, you’ll see a lot of interactive points, but you only need to worry about three of them. You don’t technically need to get instructions from Moses to complete this step, although you will have to Pulse at least once; here’s the full list of instructions:

  1. Open the control panel on the right side of the projector
  2. Flip the Focus Mode switch to manual (you can examine it to check)
  3. Turn the Focus Dial all the way to the left, which will take two interactions
  4. Press the calibrate button (the red one at the bottom)

When you’ve done this, talk to Moses and tell him that Olga is broken. He’ll get up to fix it, and you’ll offer up his services as projector guard. He won’t be too happy about it, but he’ll understand soon enough. Head back to the Dead World to tell Moses that the plan worked, and you’ll be able to unlock an optional side task to get Moses a new chimney for his gingerbread house.

Getting it for him is the least you can do after his help, so head back to the Living World and ask Safi if he can have hers using the “Gingerbread House” option when interacting with her. She’ll give it up, adding a message for him to see. Go back to the Dead World, give it to Moses, then come back to the Living world to start the show.

After a minor setback involving Safi shapeshifting into Loretta to prevent Lucas from leaving without taking part in his own roast, he’ll eventually come inside off the patio to begin the festivities.

Should you tell Safi to confront Lucas as herself or as Vinh?

Despite starting well, with Vinh revealing some devastating home truths about what Lucas did to Maya, he eventually gets spooked by a veiled threat that Lucas makes and leaves the stage. Gwen will take her turn to speak out, but Lucas also manages to make her look like a disgruntled ex-colleague and nothing more.

Eventually, Safi becomes outraged and vows to make Lucas reveal the truth by shapeshifting into Vinh. However, Max can also choose to tell her to do it as herself. Here’s how both scenarios play out:

If you tell Safi to confront Lucas as herself, she will storm onto the stage and give him what for. He will try to talk his way out of it at first, but eventually, he’ll slip up and admit to what he did.

Safi will feel empowered for doing it as herself, rather than having to wear the face of someone else to be heard and believed. She will be overjoyed, but before you can start celebrating, Lucas will approach and ask to talk to her alone.

After talking, Safi runs off, and a storm begins. Whatever Lucas told her, it was enough to tip Safi over the edge.

If you agree that Safi should shapeshift into Vinh to confront Lucas, then things are about to get spicy. “Vinh” has some choice words for Lucas and doesn’t pull his punches in any way. Lucas, in response, has an outburst of his own and calls Maya an idiot for “running off.”

He will be outed for the fraud that he is, but there may be consequences for Vinh considering he is in two places at once, and Safi will come to rely more on her power than she did before. Lucas will still approach Safi and ask her to talk.
