How to exchange old Tomestones in FFXIV Dawntrail

Get that Poetics boost while you can!

If you’ve just logged in to Final Fantasy XIV hoping to set sail for Dawntrail, there’s one thing you should take care of first. Both Tomestones of Causality and Tomestones of Comedy have been discontinued, but they’re not entirely useless, yet.

If you have a stockpile of Causality or Comedy Tomes, you’re able to exchange them for Tomestones of Poetics, which can be immensely useful heading into a new expansion. You can use Poetics to purchase the previously highest level gear (iLvl 660, in this case) or better gear for new Jobs, like Viper and Pictomancer

How to exchange discontinued Tomestones in FFXIV

To exchange old Tomestones in FFXIV, head to Mor Dhona and talk to Auriana (X:22.7, Y:6.7). After interacting with her, select “Allagan Tomestone Exchange.”

You can exchange either of the discontinued Tomestones for Poetics, but you won’t get a one-to-one exchange rate. Regardless of which type you exchange, you’ll receive half as many Poetics as you hand in.

Once you’ve refreshed your hoard of Poetics, if you’re looking to head into Dawntrail with the best gear, head to Radz-at-Han and speak to Cihanti (X:10.8, Y:10.3) to gear up your chosen class with iLvl 660 Augmented Credendum gear.

Alternatively, if you’ve just picked up Viper or Pictomancer, you’ll be able to get the best level 80 gear by visiting Eulmore and talking to Aymark (X:10.2, Y:11.8). Here, you can pick up the iLvl 500 Augmented Cryptlurker gear for either Job.
