How to set up a torch inĀ Baldur’s Gate 3

The shadow curse inĀ Baldur’s Gate 3Ā is a big pain during the beginning of Act 2 for a lot of people. It will slowly bring down your party’s health as you explore the cursed landscape of the Shadow Battlefield. It also forces you to go into turn-based mode, annoyingly. Thankfully, a simple torchĀ can light the way forward. A strangely friendly goblin at the entrance of the Shadow Battlefield offers a few torches for your party to pick up. Go grab them by the fire.

To equip the necessary tool, go to the inventory menu and find the torch. You can even search for it in the toolbar. Once it’s available, right-click on it and select “Equip.” Don’t double-click on it. Now, that character has the torch equipped, this makes your progression in the Shadow Battlefield or a dark cave easier.

A big issue with the torch

The problem with equipping the torch inĀ Baldur’s Gate 3Ā is that it makes your attacks much weaker in battle. If you unequip it, you’ll gain the shadow curse once more. Pick a character that’s focused on healing or has low damage output like Shadowheart. Make her the leader and keep the party around her during battles. There’s an enemy type in the Shadow Battlefield that teleports your party members away, but try to keep as many characters as possible near the torch.
