How to download and install Fallout: London and make sure it’s compatible

Plan your visit to post-apocalyptic Blighty.

After five years in development, almost scuppered entirely by the next-gen update for Fallout 4, Fallout: London is finally available. You can download it and play it right now, but unless you downgrade your version of the game or follow some specific instructions, you’re going to struggle to get it to run.

Fallout: London was basically ready to release when Bethesda launched the next-gen update for Fallout 4. The fact that the update was fairly buggy and that it changed many of the base files that developer Team Folon had been working with for years meant that the mod had to be delayed indefinitely. However, GOG stepped in to provide a custom mod distribution platform, solving any issues with the mod’s size and a solution to help users install Fallout 4 and Fallout: London correctly so they can play right away.

How to download and install Fallout: London and make sure it’s compatible

To download and install Fallout: London so it’s compatible when you run it, you first need to download Fallout 4: Game of the Year Edition. This can be either through Steam or GOG, but I’d recommend GOG because it makes running the mod so much easier.

Once you’ve purchased and downloaded the game, you need to visit the official store page for Fallout: London on GOG and acquire it. At the time of writing, the mod is free. While I doubt GOG or Team Folon will ever be able to charge money for the mod, it’s worth grabbing before August 1, 2024, when the “giveaway” ends, just in case.

If you own and have already installed Fallout 4: Game of the Year Edition through GOG Galaxy, then install Fallout: London through the same launcher. Once the mod has been installed, follow the instructions after hitting Play in GOG Galaxy, and the mod should run smoothly.

However, if you own Fallout 4: Game of the Year Edition on Steam, and that’s where you’ve installed it, you need to downgrade your version of the game before you can play the mod. Thankfully, Team Folon has put together a fabulous set of instructions for how to do this here. It also walks you through how to install Fallout: London through mod managers, which should save you from needing to purchase a second copy of the game if Steam is where you’d already purchased it.

If you have any trouble with your installation, the best thing to do is to contact Team Folon directly. Twitter is probably the best place to reach out, but you can also speak to the development team through the Fallout: London Discord server.
