Thief King is the first boss, and the first real challenge in Pilgrammed: The Raindrops. While he is pretty tough for a first boss, he is also a great stepping stone for what’s yet to come as you adventure beyond the first outpost.
If you’re having trouble with Thief King, don’t worry, you’re not alone, we all did. In this guide, we’ll help you prepare you for the battle so you can finish the quest and get your shiny Mischievous Vuvuzela and the cape.
Before you fight Thief King
Something we’ve covered in our Ultimate Pilgrammed: The Raindrops Beginner’s Guide is that the best weapon is to combine all weapon types, and Thief King is a great opportunity to see that in action. If you’re missing gold or ores, just kill a few thieves around the Prairie, and you should be good to go.
So, first of all, grab each of the three weapons. These include:
- Bronze Sword / Bronze Greatsword (no need to get both)
- Magic Branch
- Wooden Bow (and some Arrows)
Equip each of these in your hotbar (Press “E” and drag them around). You can also buy the Wanderer outfit and the Horned Helmet but they aren’t really necessary.
Fighting Thief King
When you’re ready to fight Thief King, walk up to him and challenge him to a fight. He will politely warn you that you’re going to lose, but just say you really want to fight him, and the battle will start.
Thief King will mostly run and spam attack at you, just like all enemies in this game, but he also has three special attacks:
- Charge attack
- Slam attack
- Summoning regular thief minions
The first two, you can simply avoid by running or dodge-rolling to the side. The last one, might sound scary, but you can actually counter it the same way you counter Thief King.
How to beat Thief King
The safest way to beat Thief King is to use the “hit & run” tactic. Combat in Pilgrammed: The Raindrops is anything but precise. If you fight enemies face-to-face, most of the time, it ends up being a random spam-fest where the tougher enemy will win (and in your case, that’s probably Thief King). Sure, you can try to block and parry attacks, but it really doesn’t work well, and you’ll probably end up dead.
The safest way to fight tough enemies like Thief King is to attack them with ranged attacks as they are chasing you. So equip your Magic Branch, and start attacking as you back away from Thief King. When you run out of mana, switch to your sword or bow, and continue until you regenrate your mana.
Thief King will likely be able to get a hit or two on you, but as long as you keep back away from him and attacking, you should be good. In fact, if you manage to do this for a while without getting hit, your health will also start to regenerate.
Nothing much changes even when Thief King summons a few mobs. Simply keep backing away and blasting them with everything and they should all go down without too much issue. While it may not sound like a heroic way to fight, it’s a very effective method and one that has helped us win many other fights in Pilgrammed: The Raindrops.
Reward for beating Thief King
After you defeat Thief King, you’ll obviously get your quest progress but you may also get one of Thief King’s items. Out of all of these items, our favorite is the Mischievous Vuvuzela, a usable item that summons up to two small Thief minions to fight for you.
If you don’t get the item you want right away, just fight Thief King again.
That’s all there is to it. Thief King might be tough at first, but once you beat him, you’ll understand a little better the ins and out of combat in Pilgrammed: The Raindrops. Also, keep an eye out on our Pilgrammed: The Raindrops codes so you don’t miss out on any freebies.
