How to defeat the Oblivion Gunship in Turok 3: Shadow of Oblivion

Don't aim for the head.

The Oblivion Gunship is the first and coolest boss in Turok 3: Shadow of Oblivion. It sets a high bar. But if you donā€™t know how to defeat it, the battle can be protracted and difficult. Itā€™s not very hard, but hereā€™s how you defeat the Oblivion Gunship.

The Oblivion Gunship is found, perhaps predictably, at the end of the first chapter. A police, uh, hover thing gets plucked out of the sky by a tentacle coming from the rift in the sky. It gets pulled through and emerges as some sort of bizarre puppet.

You start off on a platform in the middle of the rooftop, which you might not be aware of at first. You can drop down to the lower levels, and maybe should, since thatā€™s where all the health and ammunition can be found. All the pick-ups here respawn rather quickly, so you can keep doing loops around the building to pick up more if you need it.

You probably wonā€™t, however. The secret of beating the boss is to not aim for the gunship at all. You want to shoot at the tentacle holding the main body of the Oblivion Gunship. You can do damage to the body of the monster, and can even destroy it this way. However, it only chips away at its health bar, whereas shooting the tentacle takes out big chunks. If your aim is good, you wonā€™t need to run for cover. Just keep blasting it with your shotgun or tech arrows, and it will be destroyed in no time.
