Tears of the Kingdom takes players back to Hyrule, and many enemies from Breath of the Wild return. Things aren’t as they were, however, and many enemies have adapted new forms and strategies. The Stone Talus, for instance, has teamed up with Bokoblins to bring double the trouble.

Despite how dangerous this enemy is, it can be crushed to dust. This guide will show you how to defeat a Battle Talus in Tears of the Kingdom.

Understanding the Battle Talus in Tears of the Kingdom

As Link is exploring, he sometimes comes across what looks like an ordinary enemy camp. As he nears, the enemy camp will reveal itself to be perched atop a massive Battle Talus. This leaves Link with the task of taking down the monsters as well as the stone foe.

Like the Stone Talus, the Battle Talus is impervious to the strikes of spears, swords, and arrows. Fortunately, it does have one weak spot which comes in the form of a mineral deposit poking out its head.

Monsters typically attack by shooting arrows, and there may be Aerocuda nearby who are divebombing and dropping explosive barrels. The Battle Talus has a few tricks of its own. Its main attack has it picking up a boulder from the ground and chucking it Link’s way. If he is struck, the damage is devastating.

How to Defeat the Battle Talus in Tears of the Kingdom

To take down this huge enemy, some strategizing is necessary. The wisest first move is to get rid of all the monsters. A little care needs to be taken when doing this, as the monsters often have explosive barrels on hand, and they aren’t afraid to use them.

A quick way to eliminate the monsters is to shoot an arrow fused to a Bomb Flower. This will outright kill them, or at least knock them off the Battle Talus, making it easier for Link to slay them on the ground. Alternative items with a large area of effect include Dragon Scales and ores like Topaz and Sapphire. While dealing with the monsters, do not forget about the Battle Talus. It moves slowly and sluggishly, but it is still capable of dealing big blows.

Once the monsters have been done away with, it’s time to deal with the Battle Talus. The safe way to beat it is to remain fairly distanced and aim arrows at its mineral deposit. This isn’t easy, as the Stone Talus is constantly moving, making aiming hard. Furthermore, the mineral deposit will sometimes be positioned such that it is impossible to aim at it while the Battle Talus is facing Link. To make aiming easier, attach a Keese eyeball or Aerocuda eyeball to Link’s arrows. The eyeballs act as honing devices, ensuring the arrows never miss.

If you’re low on arrows or eyeballs, opt for the second method which involves getting on the Battle Talus’ head. Don’t bother trying to climb onto the giant because it will quickly shake Link off. Instead, get directly under the enemy and use Ascend to reach its top. An alternative way to get on top of the Battle Talus is to start a fire (this can be done by activating Yonubo on a grassy field), then use the updrafts to paraglide onto the stone foe.

From here, wail on the mineral deposit with your strongest melee weapon. Eventually, the Battle Talus will shake Link off. If Link’s weapon is strong enough, the enemy will be defeated before this happens. If not, simply repeat the process until the enemy is dead.

With enough resources on hand, the Battle Talus can be quickly slain. There are plenty of other Talus types to look out for, including the Frost Talus, Igneo Talus, and Luminous Stone Talus. They all drop a very valuable Stone Talus Heart which sharply increases the attack power of any weapon it is fused to.
