Customizing your wand in Hogwarts Legacyā¦
Choosing the right wand is a defining moment on the path of any great witch or wizard. If you want to be prepared for whatever may lie in store for you in the ever-murky future, youāll need to have not just any wand, but the right wand. After all, as Hogwarts Legacy itself demonstrates, the wand chooses the witch or wizard, not the other way aroundā¦
Once you enter Mr. Ollivanderās shop and make your way through the obligatory cutsceneāwhich illustrates just a few ways that things can easily go awry if a witch or wizard is matched with the wrong wandāyouāre then presented with the right wand by the shopkeeper. The player will then transition to a user interface where they can begin the process of customizing their wand to their liking. Youāll start by being presented with a default wand, which you can change at will.
There are a handful of wood types from which to select. There are no right or wrong choices, so feel free to go with whatever looks most appealing to you. You can also change the color of the wood, but again there is only a meager lineup. While the developers mightāve talked up the gameās immersion factor, they might have neglected to mention that wand customization was superficial to the point of almost being nonexistent.
Once you make your choices, you can then confirm the wood type, length, and flexibility via a slider that you can click left or right on. The absence of a fully functional preview window here makes it all but impossible for the player to make fully informed choices in this area. You will see your wand floating in the background as you flick between these menus, but many of the changes donāt appear to be reflected here.
After you complete this process and confirm your choices, you’ll view a cutscene where your character uses their wand for the first time, much to the delight of Mr. Ollivander.
Can you change your wand in Hogwarts Legacy?
Unfortunately, once you confirm your wand selection, you will be stuck with that wand for the rest of the game. Short of starting over with a new save file, there is no way currently to repeat this singularly momentous activity. So hopefully whatever wand you find yourself with is one youāre happy with.
