How to craft the Portable Miner in Satisfactory 1.0

Great early-game investment.

As the name suggests, you can carry the Portable Miner easily from place to place, and is also one of the first machines you can unlock early in Satisfactory 1.0.

The Portable Miner helps to partially automate the extraction process of resources after you place it on a node. It comes with a limited storage capacity and is not as efficient as a Miner Mk.1.

How to unlock the Portable Miner in Satisfactory and craft it

To unlock the Portable Miner, complete the Tier 0 – HUB Upgrade 1. This will unlock the Equipment Workshop from which you would be able to access the Portable Miner.

To craft a Portable Miner, simply:

  1. Head inside the Equipment Workshop and press the E button to interact with it.
  2. Keep 2x Iron Plates and 4x Iron Rods ready in your inventory. These are the materials required to craft the equipment.
  3. Then, hold down the yellow Craft button for a few seconds to craft the Portable Miner.

This equipment doesn’t require many resources. This allows you to construct multiple of them to make the job easier during the early game phases. The mining speed of this equipment is decent as it can churn mines at a speed of:

Mining SpeedResource Node type
20 items per minuteImpure nodes
40 items per minuteNormal nodes
80 items per minutePure nodes

However, you can’t overclock it unlike the bigger Miners that are available later.

How to use a Portable Miner in Satisfactory 1.0

To use the equipment, press Tab and replace the Xeno-Zapper with the Portable Miner in your hands slot. Now all you need to do is find a resource node such as Iron, Copper, or Limestone.

Then press the left mouse button to place the Miner on top of the node and once done, you can interact with it by pressing the E button.

You can easily carry it from one place to another. Simply press the yellow Pick Up Miner button while it’s active and it will slide right back into your inventory.

Apart from early game phases, you can also use it to collect resources while exploring other starting locations, without worrying too much about setting up massive systems for resource automation.

As you progress, the Portable Miner will be used to craft better production buildings such as Miner Mk.1, Miner Mk.2, Miner Mk.3, and Drones.
