How to complete Trial of Chaos in Path of Exile 2

Hard test

Path of Exile 2 has no shortage of grueling content to test your skills, and the Trial of Chaos is certainly at the very top.

Early access has introduced two Ascendancy options for each available class, and you can unlock them from the Trial of the Sekhemas. Act 3 will get you access to the Trial of Chaos, which is the second Ascension Trial you’ll come across in early access. If you think that the Trial of Sekhemas is hard, Chaos will test you even more.

In Act 3, Chimera is one of the bosses you’ll come across. Once you’ve defeated it, you’ll find an exit that leads to the trial. This, for me, is the easiest way to access Trial of Chaos, and to start, you’ll hand over your token to the Trialmaster.

How does Trial of Chaos work in Path of Exile 2

The Trial of Chaos is structured pretty similarly to the Trial of Sekhemas – there are ten rooms, and you proceed gradually. Once you clear a level (room, in this case), the Trialmaster will increase the difficulty of the challenge. This will work in three different ways.

  • A buff to the monsters, which will make them more dangerous.
  • Environmental hazards that can do a lot of damage to your health.
  • Curses that provide a negative buff on your character abilities.

These multipliers will be implemented after each round. But you can take an important decision after clearing a room – quit and keep everything that you have earned, or take a risk and continue. If you fail, you’ll lose everything.

After clearing three rooms, you’ll encounter the first boss. A successful and full run will require you to clear 10 rooms and 3 bosses. So far, players have mostly encountered two bosses – Scourge of the Skies and Bahlak the Sky Seer.

Compared to the other two, Scourge is easier to manage. This bird-like creature is relatively slow, which makes it easier to land your attacks. Its basic attack is the Beak Strike, which you can avoid with a dodge. The same also applies to its AoE attacks as well, but they will be harder to dodge. As for Bahlak, most players have reported finding it nearly impossible to kill.

Irrespective of the bosses you encounter, it’s better to level up as much as possible before accessing the trial. That way, your chances of having a longer run will be higher. Additionally, if you barely manage to clear a wave, it’s better to quit with whatever rewards you have earned.

Once you manage to successfully kill a boss, you’ll get 2 Ascendancy points that can be used to enhance your passive skill tree. You’ll also get plenty of useful rewards like weapons, gear, and additional currency. While these trials are truly challenging, the rewards are certainly worth your time and energy.

Occasionally, you could also end up getting Soul cores from the Trialmaster. These items are different from regular runes and offer several boosts. These cores are handed out at random, and you’ll have to largely rely on your luck.

That’s pretty much all of it when it comes to the Trial of Chaos. To manage a full run, you’ll have to depend on luck significantly, even if your level is higher than the recommended number and your gear setup is on point.
