After you’ve sealed the rift in Hyrule Castle and cleared Zelda’s name in The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom, you’ll unlock a bountiful harvest of side quests. One of them, “Impa’s Gift,” will make getting to the new rifts that’ve opened up across Hyrule much easier (and more fun!)
As you’ve probably guessed, Zelda’s faithful attendant, Impa, is the one who gives this side quest. She’s standing off to the right in Hyrule Castle’s throne room, and if you’re anything like me, the side-quest indicator hanging over her head was the first thing you noticed after you got your snazzy new outfit from the king.
Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom Impa’s Gift Quest Guide
Talking with Impa reveals your reward for completing this side quest: a unique horse born and raised to be Zelda’s loyal steed. If you went to Hyrule Ranch before starting this quest, you already know Impa’s talking about the white, golden-maned mare the ranch owner wouldn’t let you take when he thought you were some random girl for want of a horse.
If you haven’t been to Hyrule Ranch yet, Don’t worry! Impa marks it on your map. Just head east from Hyrule Castle Town until you reach the quest marker. I’d recommend stopping by the Waypoint off a bit to the northwest so you can warp back here anytime.
Once you reach Hyrule Ranch, you” see the owner’s daughter mumbling that it’s “strange they’re still gone.” Talking to her will reveal that her little brother took the mare out for some exercise before your scheduled hand-off. On cue, the boy returns in a panic, shouting that your horse fell into a rift near a carrot patch. Great.
Another map marker will point you northeast to a giant rift, and you might even run into Dampé, the automaton smith, on your way up there. You might not, though. I’ve heard from some people his position is randomized. For now, focus on getting to the rift.
Once you’ve arrived at your destination (and beheld the horror of an inter-dimensionally bisected carrot patch), you’ll realize this mission is another “mend the rift by beating a mini-dungeon” like the one at the Graveyard, so get ready to track down a couple of Tri’s missing friends.
All Tri friend locations in Zelda Echoes of Wisdom’s Stilled Carrot Patch
Unlike the Stilled Desert Temple Ruins or Stilled Upper Zora River rifts, only four of Tri’s friends are in this rift. To find them, you’ll have to look high and low. Literally.
Stilled Carrot Patch Tri friend location #1
You’ll be in a small thicket when you set foot in the Stilled Carrot Patch. Head to the furthest box on the right and pick it up to reveal a hidden ladder. Slide down it. You’ll end up in a 2-D section with a Platboom off to the immediate right. It’s guarding a sealed door that’s guarding a row of boxes. Head past it and summon a Platboom Echo to get up to the second floor.
Once there, bind the big rock and use the Platboom to drop the rock onto the switch to the left. That will unlock the door. Move your Platboom echo to smash the last two boxes in the row, revealing one of Tri’s friends.
Stilled Carrot Patch Tri friend location #2
Go back up the ladder and head north along the path until you reach an inverted patch of forest. Use your Platboom Echo to ascend to the top cliff. One of Tri’s friends is sitting on the raised platform to the right, so use your Platboom Echo to get up to it.
Stilled Carrot Patch Tri friend location #3
Head down to the start of the rift, then hook left until you find another assortment of boxes. Break the furthest box on the left to reveal another hidden ladder. Head down to enter a small storage guarded by some rift-born Spear Moblins.
If you’re following my process to the letter, these are the only enemies you’ll run into in this rift, so don’t be afraid to use your swordsman form to take them out quickly. The Moblin in the very back of the room is the one holding Tri’s friend.
Stilled Carrot Patch Tri friend location #4
Return to the surface and head left across the floating stone to the next island over. You’ll find a quartet of massive boulders blocking your path to the last of Tri’s friends. Pulling the first boulder back, the second to the right, and the final one down. This gives you enough room to summon a Platboom, which you can use to lift the boulder off Tri’s friend so you can grab them.
Once you’ve sealed the rift and returned to the real world, the game pulls a dirty trick on you, making you think you’ll need to chase your wayward horse down. Luckily, this is just here to teach you that you can summon Zelda’s horse by pulling a carrot out of this patch. With your noble steed by your side, you can take part in the Flag Races or move on with your adventure. The choice is yours.
