How to complete The Dawning quest in Destiny 2

Dust off those Holiday Ovens, it's time for The Dawning!

The Dawning has returned to Destiny 2, and with it come some treats, old and new! Rhymes aside, players diving into the returning yearly holiday event will find themselves baking treats for NPCs and tossing snowballs. But before Guardians can kick the winter-time celebration off, they’ll need to complete The Dawning quest.

Each year, The Dawning begins with a quest of the same name. This introductory quest reacquaints players with the event’s unique mechanics and teaches newcomers how to participate if they haven’t before. Here’s where to find and how to go through the whole quest for any player having trouble.

Step 1

The first step in starting up The Dawning is to visit Eva Levante in the Tower. Eva has set up shop in the center of the Courtyard, between where Master Rahool and Postmaster Kadi 55-30 reside. Talking to her starts The Dawning quest, where Eva asks Guardians to help her spread a little holiday cheer.

The first task Eva requests is for players to bake a special treat for Commander Zavala. To do this, players must put on their chef hats and use Eva’s Holiday Oven. The Holiday Oven is the driving mechanic behind the event, used to bake sweets from reagents collected around the solar system.

Players can interact with Eva’s Holiday Oven by opening the Quests tab in the Director and finding it within the “Quests” subtab. The Gjallardoodles will be the only recipe available to Guardians, and the materials needed are covered for this first snack.

Step 2

After whipping up some Gjallardoodles, the next step is to deliver them to Zavala. As always, the Commander can be found at the left edge of the Tower’s Courtyard, opposite Lord Shaxx. Zavala will heartily express his thanks and send Guardians on their way to spread more cheer.

The next part of The Dawning quest simply asks players to claim the first Event Challenge from the Event Card. Event Cards accompany Destiny 2 holidays and offer additional cosmetics earned through holiday-specific Triumph completions. Guardians can access the Event Card for The Dawning either through Eva or from the Quests tab in the Director.

The Event Challenge that players need to claim is called Dawn Of The Dawning. It is the top-most, left-most Challenge on the Card’s first page. Once claimed, players will receive an Event Ticket, an event-specific currency used to purchase Event Card cosmetics.

Step 4

With the Event Challenge claimed, The Dawning asks Guardians to return to Eva and inform her of their progress. Eva will, of course, be thrilled by the player’s participation and offer some Dawning Spirit.

Dawning Spirit is another currency specific to The Dawning. It can be gathered by completing Event Challenges and Bounties provided by Eva. Dawning Spirit is used to purchase The Dawning Upgrades or for Dawning Focusing.

Speaking of Upgrades, the next part of The Dawning quest asks players to purchase an Upgrade from Eva. Only one will be available, Merrymaker. This allows Guardians to collect a Boon of Friendship from Eva once a day.

The Boon of Friendship is an item specific to The Dawning. It can be found in the Consumables tab in the Inventory and offers additional Dawning rewards for an entire Fireteam. Rewards payout after completing one playlist activity, and multiple players can consume their Boon to stack the effect. Once a reward is earned, the effect is lost.

Step 6

After purchasing the Merrymaker Upgrade, Eva will talk to Guardians again and finish off The Dawning quest. From here, players will receive their first Boon of Friendship and get the Cookie Delivery Helper quest from Eva.
