How to complete the Bug Buster requests in RE4 Remake Separate Ways DLC

Who you gonna call?

Not long after you face U-3 for the final time, you get a new challenge: Go kill some bugs. Okay, it’s a little more complicated than that, plus it’s the first of two bug-hunting challenges. Lucky for you, I know how to complete both Bug Buster requests you can tackle in the RE4 Remake Separate Ways DLC.

To complete the requests, you must hunt down and shoot camouflaged Novistadors, mostly clinging to a wall or ceiling. You can fail the tasks rather easily since the creatures do a surprisingly good job at hiding themselves.

Complete the Bug Buster request in Path of Penitence and nearby cliff areas – Chapter 5

Your first Bug Buster request in Separate Ways occurs in Chapter 5 in the Path of Penitence. The area isn’t easy to miss. It’s occupied by Ganado Zealots and gigantic crushers that drop from the ceiling. I’m sure those made some impact. Ahem.

Path of Penitence Bug 1

The first bug can’t be killed until you activate the crushers. Once you pull the lever, the crusher to your right will rise, letting you pass under. But do so quickly; I call it a crusher for a reason. Once you get past it, look at the ceiling to find your first bug. I’ll include the map location as well, just in case you’re having trouble:

Path of Penitence Bug 2

As you head to exit the Path of Penitence, you’ll come across a long staircase leading up. It will take you to the next area: The nearby cliff. Head up the stairs but stop around the halfway point. Look behind you and to the ceiling. The second bug is there:

The request mentions both the Path of Penitence and “nearby cliff” areas. Do you have a guess where the final bug is hiding? That’s right, at the cliff! Leave the tunnel with the staircase. I suggest taking out all the Ganados before heading up the next set of stairs. Walk up the stairs, stop at the halfway point, and look behind you. Pan up and you’ll see the third bug:

Complete the Bug Buster request in the Defensive Line area – Chapter 6

The next Bug Buster request is in Chapter 6 of the Separate Ways DLC. You have three more hidden bugs to kill, this time in the Defensive Line area. After you ride the gondola, you’ll meet up with the Merchant. You’ll know you’re in the right place when you see an opening leading to a large area with two turrets using lasers to spot any movement. This is going to be a thing.

Defensive Line Bug 1

Now begins the really icky part. Drop into the area below (I believe in you) and quickly move behind cover. The first bug is right next to you. Look to your left and you’ll spot it clinging to the cliff wall:

Defensive Line Bug 2

The second bug is much deeper into the military compound. It’s also the easiest one to miss. Trust me, I never saw this one in my first playthrough. After you infiltrate the compound and are able to take out the right turret, look toward the platform with the white lights. You should see a watchtower with red lights just past it on the left side. Clinging to the side of the tower is our sneaky, little bug friend:

Defensive Line Bug 3

The third and final bug in the Defensive Line area is past the broken bridge. After zipping across, stop and look up and to the right. You’ll spot bug number three on the wall past the fence:
