How to complete Something Comes A’Knocking in Disney Dreamlight Valley

Knock knock. Who's there?

Thanks to the roadmap for Disney Dreamlight Valley, we know that Sally of Nightmare Before Christmas fame is heading for the valley soon, but she’s nothing without her Pumpkin King. Jack Skellington is available for all, but his unlock quest is a doozy.

Not because it’s particularly difficult, but more because of the amount of frustration you’re likely to feel if you fall into a certain category of unlucky players. There are a few steps to get through, so let’s get started.

How to unlock Jack Skellington in Disney Dreamlight Valley

Jack is unlocked by completing a quest called “Something Comes A’Knocking”, but you can’t start that until you’re met some requirements:

  • Unlock the Forgotten Lands (15,000 Dreamlight)
  • Restore all six of the Pillars around the Valley:
    • Pillar of Friendship (Peaceful Meadow)
    • Pillar of Power (Dazzle Beach)
    • Pillar of Trust (Glade of Trust)
    • Pillar of Nurturing (Sunlit Plateau)
    • Pillar of Courage (Forest of Valor)
    • Pillar of Love (Frosted Heights)
  • Unlock the Fairy Godmother and complete the quest “Miracles Take Time

After you’ve completed “Miracles Take Time” a mysterious tree will emerge in the Forgotten Lands that has a pumpkin carved on it. It’s a familiar tree for any fan of Nightmare Before Christmas, and this is the beginning of your efforts to unlock Jack. Sadly, you don’t actually get to go to Pumpkin Town.

How to find the Matryoshka Dolls in Disney Dreamlight Valley

Before you can actually meet Jack for the first time, you’re going to need to find four Matryoshka Dolls. In case you’re uncertain what you’re looking for, these are otherwise known as Russian Dolls that fit inside each other. And, sadly, that’s about as much help as I can give you on this front.

There are four differently sized Dolls to find, ranging from a big one down to a tiny one. They can spawn anywhere in the village, including in the Forgotten Lands, so you’ll need to keep an eye out for them while you go about your duties. They’ll be surrounded by the same golden glitter effect as any other quest item.

If you’ve been wandering around your Valley for hours and not getting anywhere like me when I did this quest, I suggest heading into the furniture menu, especially if you have a very decorated Valley.

Those decorations could be hiding the Dolls, and going into the furniture menu allows you to move items around to see beneath them. Not to mention that moving around this way is also much quicker than physically running around to locate the Dolls.

When you’ve eventually gathered up all four differently-sized Dolls, go back to the Forgotten Lands and make your way to the pumpkin tree. You’ll be able to place all four of the Dolls in front of the tree one by one, which will cause Jack to appear. You’ll also get to keep the Dolls, and they make for cute decorations.

All that’s left to do from there is to build Jack’s house. It’s a shrunken-down version of his house from the film and costs 5,000 Star Coins to build. With that done, Jack will be moving in and making himself at home in no time. Just don’t leave him in charge of presents at Christmas.
