How to complete Once a Riddler, Now a Ruler in FFXIV Dawntrail

Once the MSQ is done in Final Fantasy XIV, a large number of side quests become available. Most of these are just simple fetch or travel quests, but some require more thinking. One quest becomes available in Dawntrail after completing the level 95 MSQ quest ‘Road to the Golden City’.

Here’s a warning – if you pick up and complete this quest, you will face some spoilers about where the story is about to go. I’d recommend leaving this one until you’ve completely finished the MSQ. 

Complete Once a Riddler, Always a Ruler in Final Fantasy XIV

To pick up this side quest, head up to the Brightbloom Post area of Tuliyollal and find the Nostalgic Attendant (X:15.3, Y:6.3). Upon talking to them, you’ll receive a notification warning you that you’ll get no help from either the duty list or journal, so you’ll need to figure out where you’re going on your own.

Riddle one: “A great hall rests upon buried shells of old, where palm trees tower over sands gleaming gold”

These riddles do ease you in gently, and it should be fairly clear that you need to head down to the beach of Tuliyollal. To find the second clue, head to the west of the beach-side bar where you pick up Role Quests. You’ll find a glittering spot marked “???” behind the largest palm tree here (X:11.7, Y:14.5). 

Riddle two: “Weathered planks creak, quietly guiding the way, to a verdant bed of green washed with sea spray”

The second clue talks of planks and a bed of green, and this is pointing directly to the flowerbed at the very end of the pier in Tuliyollal. Make the long run down and round the bed, facing back towards the city, and you’ll find a glittering spot marked “???” in the bushes (X:10.2, Y:21.9). 

Make sure to pick up the Sightseeing Log Vista here, if you haven’t already. 

Riddle three: “A thoroughfare worn smooth speaks of journeys come to end – reason and resolve, set in stone, with duty contend”

Possibly the hardest riddle to solve, but even this isn’t too difficult when you really think about it. To find the last location and solve the third riddle, head to Morrow’s Measure and inspect the tableaus in the area. You’ll find the last glittering spot hidden behind the tableau in the north east (X:10.9, Y:13.2).

Pick up the ring and take it back to the Nostalgic Attendant to complete the quest. You’ll get some EXP for your trouble, but the real reward here is knowing that Koana’s efforts have not gone to waste after all these years.
