How to complete Meteoric in Destiny 2

Investigate the impact site.

Once you’ve hit all of the requirements to begin the first Episode in Destiny 2, Echoes, you’ll need to complete the mission, Meteoric. This is your introduction to the story, and it’s a cracking way to jump into things. However, much like The Final Shape‘s campaign, it’s far from simple.

Meteoric is a tricky mission that starts out simple enough but grows in complexity until it feels like Transmigration in The Final Shape. It’s a meaty introduction and one that you’ll definitely enjoy, but you might also need a little help to get you through it and onto the absolute joy that is 15 minutes of story that follows. There’s so much more to the story than this because it’s way bigger than a season, so don’t worry about not being able to complete this first section by yourself.

How to complete Meteoric in Destiny 2

Below, I’ve broken down Meteoric in Destiny 2 into steps. Follow each one, and you’ll find the solutions you seek for wherever you happen to be stuck.

Step 1: Speak to Failsafe and shut down the Vex

The very first thing you must do in Meteoric in Destiny 2 is speak to Failsafe. They explain a little about how the Echo that landed on Nessus has screwed things up, but you’ll need to take care of some Vex before they can help because Failsafe’s systems have been restrained.

Head outside and start killing Vex. After you’ve worked your way through a few of them, you’ll need to shut down some confluxes to release Failsafe. It’s pretty simple, but some of these Vex can sneak up on you, so watch out for them.

Step 2: Disable the Vex Nodes

After you follow the path to the Echo impact site, you’ll need to help Failsafe with their analysis. After activating their beacon, you’re going to have a tonne of Vex to fight. Battle through them, and then, when you kill a Minotaur, pick up its head.

The head is useful for killing some Vex, but it’s also used more specifically. Vex Nodes are going to appear, and you’ve got to get a single beam from the Vex head through all the Nodes you can see.

Initially, you’ve got two Nodes to shoot through. There’s a platform in this area that should have a quest icon on it. Stand there and look towards the Vex Nodes. Line up your shot and then fire. This should close off that set of Vex Nodes.

The next set of Nodes is strange. There’s no clear position from which you can hit both of them. At least, that’s how it looks. Shoot through the lower node and onto the platform behind it. This will reflect your beam into the top node. If it doesn’t, shift about a bit, and you should manage to nail it.

Kill a few more Vex, and you’ll get another set of Nodes. These ones are mental. You’ve got to bounce the beam through the left-hand node and line up the ones on the right perfectly if you want to close them off. You’ve got to make a trick shot here, but it’s not as hard as it looks.

Three more Nodes spawn for the next set. with this one, you’ve got to shoot through one Node and then line up the shot until it closes all of them without being able to see the others you’re hitting. I went a little mad trying to pull this off, but it’s definitely not the toughest set of the mission.

The next set is the final set for this step. You’ve got to get under the first Node and shoot up to the platform to reflect your beam. But you also need to reflect it through the second Node to shoot down and hit another Node you can’t see. Don’t go crazy, and just move around a little until you hit this one.

Step 4: Defeat Cottux, Compelled Mind

Once you’re done messing with Nodes, Cottux, Compelled Mind will show up to destroy you. This Vex Mind floats around the cave and fires everything it has at you. It’s possible to shoot it from underneath, which is something I massively abused in our battle to hit its halfway point pretty quickly.

Sadly, Cottux knows how much we all love those Nodes, so they hide in a shield until you deal with a few more. The set requires you to shoot up through a Node to hit a platform and nail another. It’s quick to do, but Cottux will rush right out to catch you out, so make sure you’re ready to get right back into that fight.

After defeating the boss, head over to the impact site to get a little story moment. The really great chunk of narrative comes later in the H.E.L.M., though, so get back there as fast as possible to see it. I promise it’s worth your time.
