Destiny 2: The Final Shape Ascent mission guide

Prepare for a complex journey in Ascent, a Destiny 2 quest that presents a series of intricate tasks. We’ll simplify each step to ensure you successfully complete the mission in The Final Shape.

Step 1: Scout ahead and find a way forward

The initial phase of the Ascent quest is relatively straightforward. You’ll follow the waypoints through a cave, where you’ll encounter the Volatile Darkness. This power, akin to a grenade, can be picked up and thrown at nearby enemies for swift elimination. Don’t worry; the game will replenish your supply, ensuring you’re well-equipped for a full-on firefight.

Once that area clears, grab another Volatile Darkness and throw it at the blocked doorway. You’ll do this several times throughout the Destiny 2: The Final Shape Ascent mission.

Step 2: Ascend up the mountain

You’ll eventually find your way out of the cave and into a icy mountain. Use the wind currents to make your jumps longer and higher. The Facet of Bravery Fragment can also be picked up along the way, so look for a plane on the cliffside.

While on the pathway, a short dialogue scene will occur between two characters. Then, go down to the area with the flashing red light. Bound enemies will be stationed here, where you must use the Transcend ability to eliminate them. Next, take another Volatile Darkness and use it to blast the doorway.

Step 3: Finish your Ascend and eliminate the Vex

As you go up the mountain, you’ll trigger a pretty intense fight involving a horde of Vex. I suggest always being on the move and using any weapons the opponent drops. You must also load up your Transcend to kill any Bound enemies.

When the Vex has been eradicated, look for two glyphs that have dropped from the enemy. This is the same nullifying glyphs interaction you’ve previously done in Requiem.

Using the information gathered, walk up to the corresponding glyph with the same symbols. The icons are randomized, meaning the puzzle solution will differ each time. Plus, the battle will start all over again if you walk up to the wrong ones (try again the next time).

Step 4: Enter the mountain and defeat the Sol Divisive

Descend into the mountain after you’ve used a Volatile Darkness to clear out a doorway. Watch out for a few damaging projectiles here, and try to time your jumps right to avoid damage.

Now, the time has come to conquer Ascent’s primary boss fight, the Sol Divisive, involving The Unwaking Mind. The opponent features two moving shields around it, so move around to shoot its open weak spot. The Unwaking Mind will also teleport and release a damaging orb to make things a bit more challenging.

The first half of the boss fight isn’t all that bad, but the second half is where things get confusing. It seems to happen when The Unwaking Mind reaches a halfway point for its health bar, triggering an invincible state. To counter this, pick up the Volatile Darkness, which will now be unlocked.

Throw it on the two blocked doorways and defeat the foes inside the rooms. Ignore the Unwaking Mind for now since you can’t really do anything while it’s in this robust state. Look again for the glyph icons dropped from the enemies inside the room. Just like last time, look for the corresponding glyphs in the main boss fight area and walk up to it.

The Unwaking Mind’s defense will go down when the glyphs are nullified. Therefore, use this time to deplete the boss’s health and get a taste of sweet victory.

Step 5: Find the light

Destiny 2: The Final Shape’s Ascent mission concludes with an all-out battle using a new ability. As long as you take advantage of your unique power, the fight should be a breeze. It will finish the mission, resulting in the next quest, Dissent. If you have yet to try Legendary mode, you can also embark on Ascent again for more rewards and an extra challenge.
