In Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3’s Zombies mode, there are a wide berth of contracts to accept that will test players with increasingly difficult feats. One of these contracts, Defend Ground Station, is a king-of-the-hill style mission that’ll task you with defending a computer station from mercenaries.
It’s also one of the most challenging contracts, especially if you’re running solo. So, let’s go over how to complete a Defend Ground Station contract from the point where you accept the mission until you can reap the sweet, sweet, Reward Rift. Get ready for a tough encounter.
Before Accepting the Mission
In preparing for a Defend Ground Station mission, I recommend you equip a weapon that can dispatch enemies in 1-2 hits — preferably a Pack-A-Punch level I or II weapon — and at least one Self-Revive kit. I think your teammates will thank you if they don’t need to worry about you in addition to themselves.
You can pinpoint a Defend Ground Station contract on the Tacmap by its icon of a skull wearing a beret. Ping it, then make double sure your teammates follow you to the point so you’re not left carrying the bag when the Terminus Outcomes mercenaries come-a-knocking. Let’s do this.
What is a Defend Ground Station contract?
To start, you’ll need to activate a trifecta of seismic refractors in the surrounding area. This part is easy enough, just make sure you’re keeping an eye (and ear) out for incoming undead. As soon as the three seismic refractors are live, the target will change to a computer station usually in the middle of where the three seismic refractors form a triangle. Get used to your surroundings, cause this is the battlefield.
As soon as you’ve activated the computer console, a data transmission will begin. At the same time, the console will be attacked by Terminus Outcomes mercenaries. It’s up to you to protect this console from the mercenaries while also avoiding an anticlimactic death. Remember, the mercenaries AI is a lot more intelligent than your average undead, and they’re a little more difficult to pick off. It can be easy to think about being a tank and running into the line of fire to take some mercs down, but unless you’re wearing a level II or level III armor vest, I would not recommend it. I have experience with that strategy failing.
If you can survive long enough to keep the computer console alive and transmitting to its completion, you’ll be rewarded with a shiny new Reward Rift, where you might be able to nab a new schematic or item you’ve been wishing for. Congratulations! You’ve completed a Defend Ground Station contract!
