How to cause a Compression Event in The Gnorp Apologue

Trigger a Compression event to gain lots of Zybellium

New idle game (the) Gnorp Apologue is pretty straightforward. Recruit some Gnorps, pound the Rock, and generate some Shards. However, one of the more important systems in the clever little game is Compression Events. Unfortunately, the game doesn’t do a great job explaining how they work, and its easy to miss. Here is how to cause a Compression Event in The Gnorp Apologue and acquire some Zybellium.

Trigger a Compression Event in The Gnorp Apologue

In order to cause a Compression Event in The Gnorp Apologue and obtain a Zybellium, you need to fill up the Compression Bar. You can find the Compression Bar in the bottom middle of the screen, as seen in the screenshot above. To fill up the bar, you need to build your Shard pile high enough to trigger the event. This means you need to be generating more Shards than you are collecting. In my opinion, the best way to do this is to just focus on Shard-generating buildings and upgrades for a while like the Slam Club, Archery Range, and Gnorp Propulsion Lab. Essentially this is the most important factor towards how to cause a Compression Event in The Gnorp Apologue.

In total, there are ten tiers of Compression, though later tiers will require you to be further in the game from doing a prestige. Zybellium upgrades and Compression Event tiers reset when you prestige as well, so you will have to do them again.

Once your pile is high enough and your Compression Bar is completely filled, it will trigger the Compression Event. You will notice the Shards quickly transferring back into the rock, before a star-shape glowing entity will pop out and fly around the area. If you have a Rock Analysis Lab built with the Zybellium Collection upgrade, you will notice the Balloon slowly moving towards the Zybellium, at which point it will trap it and bring it back to the Lab, giving you one of the currency to use.

Best way to cause a Compression Event

The first and most important part of causing an event is to keep your Overdrive Bar maxed out. The Overdrive Bar is the flashing-colored bar located on the left side of the top middle of your interface. Filling up this bar increases your multiplier which increases the damage done to the Rock, and therefore how many Shards are generated from doing so. The easiest way to keep this multiplier bar full is to make sure to click and hold on the Rock every now and then which builds the bar.

The next part, and arguably most important, is to take advantage of the Weakness system. Little circles appear on the Rock which are Weakness points. When clicked they eject a massive amount of Shards. By default, you can allow up to five Weakness points to build up at once. Let this happen, then quickly click all of them to cause a massive amount of Shards to shoot into your pile. Of course, upgrades that increase the Weakness damage will help this. This can help push your pile higher and quickly fill the Compression Bar.

Finally, if you’re going for a big push to try and trigger a Compression Event, make sure you toggle your Cocoa Cafe status to let your Mountaineers rest and toggle your Runners at The Express to take a break instead of working. This allows the Shards to build up as opposed to get collected.

Now that you know how to cause a Compression Event in The Gnorp Apologue, it’s time to start farming some Zybellium to unlock the best upgrades in the game.
