How to build structures in LEGO Fortnite?

Build a home for you and your villagers!

If you’re anything like me, you might exclusively play Fortnite in Zero Build rather than the classic Battle Royale. To be frank, I play Zero Build so frequently that I sometimes forget the game is supposed to allow the building of structures as part of its core gameplay loop.

But, LEGO Fortnite is here to remind us that building can be fun! In the game, you can collect resources from around your world and use them to build structures, tools, and much more! But, the process is a little different than in the Battle Royale mode, so we wanted to help any confused players out. Here’s how to build structures in LEGO Fortnite!

How to craft buildings in LEGO Fortnite?

To start, you’ll need to unlock schematics, which can be acquired as you develop your village. As soon as you have a schematic you’d like to build in your village, the next step is acquiring the resources needed to bring it to life. It should be noted that if you created your world in Sandbox mode, you don’t need to acquire resources, and can build whatever you’d like on a whim.

To begin the crafting process, press the O button on PlayStation(Q on PC/B on Xbox), and you’ll enter the menu where your collection of schematics can be found. Pick the schematic you’d like to construct and you’ll exit the menu automatically. It’s now time to place your building, so find a spot without any obstructions — the game will tell you if another object is preventing you from building something. As soon as you’ve found a clear spot, the magic can truly begin.

You should now see the building’s foundations, but it’s up to you to build the rest! Press the square button on PlayStation (E on PC/X on Xbox) to initiate the building process. It’s then that you’ll see a hologram of what the structure should look like, and the various LEGO pieces needed to make it.

You need to line up each piece where it should go on the hologram until the building is complete. I want to make it very clear — the construction process is where resources are actively depleted, so you might need to temporarily pause the build process to hunt for resources. The good news on that front is that if you need to walk away from a construction-in-progress, you won’t lose your progress or resources.
