The FFXIV Fisher Job at a glance

Life in FFXIV as a Fisher (FSH) makes you one of three Disciples of the Land ā€” also called a Gatherer. As long as you have a battle class at level 10, you can start fishing at the Fishermen’s Guild in the Limsa Lominsa Lower Docks (X:7.9, Y:14.4). The job paves the way to Ocean Fishing, Spearfishing, and it’s a handy extra for collecting scads of fishies to craft with.

Becoming an angling expert in FFXIV also means gaining access to the Fishing Log and Fishing Hole menus. The job also has a few minions exclusive to the role, like the Magic Bucket, Gull, Dolphin Calf, and Major General. It’s also how you get the Hybodus Horn, a personal favorite mount.

Tips for progressing FFXIV Fisher quests

If you’re having trouble advancing due to leveling restrictions, try Ocean Fishing in Limsa Lominsa. Every two hours, a boat leaves the docks to send players off on an open sea excursion. You can get all of the bait required from a nearby NPC, and it’s not hard to get the hang of.

Personally, I like using Levequests, too. It helps break up the monotony of leveling, and hitting the 99 quest allowance cap seems like such a waste. You can also try the Ishgard Restoration zone, Diadem. It’s an easy way to grind from Level 10 to 70.

Remember, those quests in between levels do give a little experience, which may be just enough to get you over the hump. Plus, you’ll want to finish them up anyway as they unlock abilities every Fisher needs for end-game grinds.
