How to beat Smog in Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom

Let's Play a Game

There are plenty of imposing bosses that Princess Zelda will face on her journey in Echoes of Wisdom. From massive moles to stone taluses, youā€™ve got your work cut out for you. Some bosses are a bit tougher than others, though, and thatā€™s exactly what Smog is.

This massive electrifying cloud can be difficult if you donā€™t know how to take him on. Luckily, weā€™re here to show you how to beat him.

Where to find Smog in Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom

Smog can be found inside the Eastern Temple, as the templeā€™s boss. Since this is an option dungeon, you wonā€™t come across it during the main storyline, so if you want to fight this boss make sure you seek it out on your own. Itā€™s just to the east of Seesyde Village.Ā

The temple itself is the key to completing the Letā€™s Play a Game side quest. Before you enter the temple, youā€™ll find a man at the entrance who said heā€™s been hearing voices from inside. If you choose to explore the temple and complete it, youā€™ll complete the side quest, too.

Smog is the voice that beckoned you into the temple. Heā€™s a large, electric cloud that will move around the room along the walls, similar to the Spark echoes that youā€™ve been solving puzzles around on your way to the boss room.

Smog has three stages, composed of two forms. The first, when you enter the room, will keep him in his large form with a single eye. Youā€™ll want to hit that eye to do damage to him. If youā€™ve got the bow and arrows, I recommend these. However, Spear Moblin echoes work too. Just make sure to use something that fires a projectile.

While Smog moves throughout the room, heā€™ll be firing electric pulses at you. I found it easiest to trap Smog in a single corner of the room using the boulders lying around. Pick them up with the Bind ability and form a wall, blocking his path, then when heā€™s in the corner, block his way out. This will prevent the electric pulses from hitting you and make it easier for echoes to aim. You can even take a nap while your echoes fight for you to recover some hearts.

After taking enough damage, Smog will break up into smaller clouds that canā€™t take damage. You will need to use the boulders again to knock the clouds back into each other to go back to his main form. These smaller clouds will move along the walls too, so just block their path so theyā€™ll hit each other.

Once Smog reforms, thatā€™s a complete stage. All you need to do is repeat these two forms two more times to defeat him. The only difference will be that Smog will break up into more clouds each time. Once youā€™ve completed all three phases, youā€™ll win.

Once youā€™ve finished the Eastern Temple, youā€™ll receive the Ancient Charm accessory from completing the quest. This accessory is particularly useful, reducing the amount of damage Zelda takes.
