Pieta, She of Blessed Renewal, is the first real boss you will run into in Lords of the Fallen. She is likely to provide a pretty tough challenge for folks who don’t quickly adapt to a couple of pretty simple rules for fighting her. In this guide, we will break down some important things you need to know if you plan on beating her.
How to beat Pieta She of Blessed Renewal in Lords of the Fallen
Pieta is a two-stage fight. In the first stage, you will be fighting her on foot, but for the second stage, she will grow wings and fly around, summoning some beings of light to fight alongside her. Some overall fight tips can be found below.
- If you are struggling, consider using a summon to help out.
- Buffs are nice. Apply some fire to your weapon by using Fire Salts to add extra damage to your attacks.
- Ranged attacks – anything you can throw is a good idea.
- Hitting dodge while an enemy is attacking will result in a short, nimble animation that gets you enough I-frames to get past the attack. Spamming dodge will just leave you low on Stamina and open to attack after you do pointless additional rolls.
- Do not spam attacks. Be precise in what you are trying to do. In the first stage, dodge, then follow up with two or three light attacks. In the second stage, consider cutting it down to one.
- If you find yourself in need of some levels and are wondering where to put the points, then Stamina or Health are best for this fight.
Stage 1
In her first stage, Pieta fights on foot with her sword. This can extend in length, and she is prone to swiping and slashing attacks that you will need to time carefully. Her attack patterns are as follows:
- A range tracking attacking. She raises her sword above her head, calling down a line of energy swords that will track you. Dodging the first one means you have dodged them all, as they can correct to get back to you in time.
- An attack where she points her sword at you and then rapidly extends it, attempting to pierce you with it.
- She will stab her sword into the ground, charging up an area of effect attack. Give her plenty of space for this, then close the distance again.
- A two-hit combo where she will extend the length of the blade on both swings of the sword.
- A three-hit combo where she will extend the length of the blade on all three swings, with the third swing being straight down from overhead.
- She will dodge toward you, then make a slam attack, swinging her sword from behind her, overhead, and then down on the ground. An area of holy energy is left that will explode after a short time.
For the first stage, you want to fight as close to Pieta as possible. Her attacks are actually quite slow, and the animations are mostly focused on covering a large area. You can easily read her animations when you are in close and dodge the attacks, then use the extended animations to punish her. Parries are also great for stripping her posture and leaving her open to heavy damage. When you remove about 25% to 33% of her health, Stage 2 will begin.
Stage 2
Stage 2 is much more difficult and will require patience. You will want to maintain some distance, closing it only when you have the chance to do damage. She will grow wings and start flying around, making getting at her to attack more difficult.
- Pieta will summon two beings of light that will perform one of her Stage 1 attacks. They will both perform the same attack, so be careful you don’t dodge one that lands you in front of the other.
- A forward dash that pushes a blade of holy energy before her. She will spin into the air before performing this, so it is quite easy to dodge.
- If she performs this attack when her summons is there, they will trail behind her, causing the ground on two-thirds of the arena to glow. Get to the part that is not glowing, as energy swords will fall from the sky.
- She will swoop at you, scoop you up, and grapple you in the air before stabbing you with her blade, doing lots of damage. You cannot break this grapple after she gets you, so ensure you dodge it.
- The best time to stay close to her is when she is just hovering in the air, swinging her sword at you. She does this reasonably often, and it gives you a good window to do damage.
Patience really is the key here. Against Pieta, you need to be precise. Don’t overreact to things you think are happening. Wait for an attack, then dodge, then strike. Learn her animations, and you will actually find this is a pretty easy fight as long as you don’t rush yourself. When you defeat her, she will drop the Remembrance of Pieta which can be taken to an NPC for some goodies.
