Typically games in the survival-crafting genre require you to connect to a specific server which will store all of your progress. In Nightingale, the entire online structure including server hosting works a bit differently from most. So how does Nightingale server hosting work?

Do you need to purchase server hosting for Nightingale?

You do not need server hosting to play Nightingale. In fact, there is no sort of dedicated servers or any sort of server files you can acquire. One of the biggest features of Nightingale is the Realm Network. As a core gameplay mechanic, all the procedurally generated Realms in Nightingale operate on persistent servers hosted by developer Inflexion Games. You won’t need to purchase any sort of server hosting to play.

As you progress through Nightingale, you will acquire various Realm Cards. These Realm Cards can be used to create portals to randomly generated realms based on the parameters in your Realm Cards. Each of these realms is essentially their own shared server, but once again, they are hosted directly on servers hosted by Inflexion Games.

Due to each realm being connected and persistent, there is currently no offline mode for Nightingale. In a way, it’s similar to how MMORPG’s work. You will need to be online and connected to the servers in order to do anything. On the flip side, all of your progress is automatically saved in real-time to the server after completing the tutorial. As long as you have an online connection you can play on the Nightingale servers.
