How does multiplayer mode work in Disney Dreamlight Valley

Better together

Once Disney Dreamlight Valley exited its early access period, Multiplayer mode was introduced into the game and now you can host friends (or strangers, if you’re that way inclined) to your island for fun and it turns out there are some benefits to being sociable.

How to unlock Multiplayer in Disney Dreamlight Valley

Before you can unlock Multiplayer, you’ll need to do two things:

  • Complete Scrooge McDuck’s quest, called “The Haunting of Dreamlight Valley”
  • Complete Vanellope’s quest, called “Faith, Trust, and Pixel Dust”

Once you’ve done these two quests and invited Vanellope to join you in the Valley, she’ll have a new quest called “Valley Visits”

During this quest, she’ll give you the KL-1200 Valley Visit Station, which you’ll need to place in your Valley before interacting with it to unlock Multiplayer.

Once you’ve got the KL-1200 Valley Visit Station placed, interact with it and select “Open a connection for Valley Visits”. You’ll shortly be given a six-digit code that others can input in the Multiplayer tab of the Start Menu in order to come and play with you.

When visiting a friend’s valley, or having a friend come to visit your valley, both of you are able to use your Royal Tools to complete tasks. This is a huge change that was implemented with the introduction of the Thrills and Frills update on May 1, 2024.

Previously, the only thing that players could do during valley visits was visit Scrooge’s store to purchase items, but that all changed, and now players can do all of the following together:

  • Fishing
  • Mining
  • Digging
  • Hunting for Ancient Parts using the Royal Hourglass
  • Water plants
  • Take photos using the camera

This can make a huge difference if you’re looking for particular resources, or simply just trying to stock up on a little bit of everything. It’s also useful if you just want company when grinding out Dreamlight Duties.

You still can’t interact with villagers or items while playing with friends, but this is a huge step up compared to what you could do prior to the update.

As ever, the main draw of inviting friends to play with you is Pixel Shards. These items will drop periodically while you’re exploring the Valley together, though sometimes they can take a little while to show up. Each player will get their own personal Pixel Shard spawns, so don’t worry about having to share the loot.

Pixel Shards can be used to craft three items:

  • Glitchy Pixel Duplicate
    • Can be used when crafting to replace some missing ingredients
  • Pixelized cooking flame
    • Doubles the output of the next five recipes cooked
  • Superior pixelized cooking flame
    • Doubles the output of the next 12 recipes cooked
