UPDATE: Guerrilla Games has since confirmed that physical versions of Horizon Forbidden West: Complete Edition on PS5 will be available
In recent years, Sony has been making a concerted effort to get more of its games onto PC. As a consequence of this, we’ve been able to enjoy a Horizon Zero Dawn port which was well-received. The next entry in the franchise, Horizon Forbidden West, is also making its way to PC in the form of a Complete Edition which will land on PS5 first.
Horizon Forbidden West: Complete Edition features the main game along with the DLC, Burning Shores, which has Aloy traveling to Los Angeles and facing off against a gargantuan Metal Devil. The base game and the DLC are some of the best that Sony’s first-party studios have to offer and are must-play titles for anyone into open-world games.
Guerrilla Games is porting the upcoming game in partnership with Nixxes, which Sony acquired in 2021. This is a good sign, as past ports Nixxes has been involved with, including Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, have been satisfactory.
What you get in Horizon Forbidden West: Complete Edition
In addition to the base game and the DLC, the Complete Edition features the following, which you’ll have already if you bought the Special Edition or better of the base game:
- Digital soundtrack
- Digital art book
- Extras in Photo Mode (special pose and face paint)
You’ll also unlock the following in-game items via story progression:
- Carja Behemoth Elite outfit
- Carja Behemoth Short Bow
- Nora Thunder Elite outfit
- Nora Thunder Sling
- Apex Clawstrider Machine Strike piece
- Resources pack
The only thing that should catch the attention of anyone who already has the game is the Horizon Zero Dawn Vol. 1: The Sunhawk digital comic book which you can purchase separately from Amazon.
There are good and bad aspects of the Complete Edition as it currently stands. The port is good news if Horizon Zero Dawn‘s port is anything to go by. On PC, players will be able to crank visuals and performance further than ever, which could give us our best glimpse yet of Horizon‘s world. It’s also priced at $59.99 USD which is cheaper than the base game’s launch price on PS5.
The potential downside comes from the fact that the Complete Edition is seemingly digital-only, even for the PS5 version. Although Sony’s announcement blog post doesn’t confirm it, things appear to lean in that direction, as all the listed bonuses are digital (the Special Edition at launch had a physical artbook).
Furthermore, the reveal trailer doesn’t depict any physical copies, which was the case with Horizon Zero Dawn’s Complete Edition. Hopefully, we’ll find out more about a physical version soon.
Horizon Forbidden West: Complete Edition launches on October 6 on PS5. You can expect it on PC in early 2024.
