Home Sweet Home looks terrifying, isn’t the Motley Crue homage it should be

Yeah, you’re afraid of the dark

It’s the month of spooks and frights and fears — you may already know this. October is home to some of the scariest video games. This one has a home that seems truly awful.

Home Sweet Home is a game that’s based on Thai folklore, and it prioritizes stealth and investigation. This weapons-free experience is more brains than brawn. Because it’s impossible to figure out anything about the story based on the trailer, here’s a summation from a press release:

After a long night filled with mourning and sorrow over the recent disappearance of his wife, Tim awakens to find himself in a strange, dilapidated building instead of the comfort of his own home. Naturally confused, he desperately begins to search for a way out while attempting to solve questions that could lead to answers regarding his wife’s disappearance. At the same time, he’ll find himself being hunted by malevolent spirits.

There is a dark and sinister secret casting a shadow over this interconnected labyrinth…and without question, it’s no longer the happy home that it once was.

Now onto more pressing matters: This is somehow not a tribute game to Motley Crue. “Home Sweet Home” is one of the Crue’s most beloved hits, and there are not nearly enough video games dedicated to one of the ’80s most ridiculous rock bands.

Actually, maybe it is. Vince Neil might look like any of those monsters by now.

Home Sweet Home launches on October 16 on PS4, PlayStation VR, and Xbox One.
