Hollowbody: How to open Helen Bridges’ Safe

How are you enjoying the apartment in Hollowbody? Feel like moving in yet? No? Well, maybe that’s because you haven’t seen enough yet. If you want to go further, you’re going to need the key from Helen Bridge’s safe in room 113.

Just take the board with nails out of the door and politely ask the occupant to leave. This is when enemies start showing up, by the way. You reach this room after you descend from the third floor to the second in the apartment complex. There is not only a monster, but also a dead woman and a few other things in the apartment to look at.

Most importantly, there’s a safe with a keypad; an always tantalizing feature in home decorating. The keypad requests a four-digit code. I’ll give you that code, but first I’ll just give you hints to help figure it out.

How to solve the Room 113 safe puzzle

To get the code for the safe, you’re going to need to look around the room and do some math. The picture stuck to the front of it sounds “graduation,” so that’s your first clue. Essentially, you need to find the year that Helen Bridges graduated University to open the safe. All the information you need is in the apartment.

You need three things. The first is her date of birth. There’s a note in the kitchen of the apartment that explicitly states the year she was born (2025), but you can also get it by examining her corpse.

Next, you’ll need some indication of when she graduated. This comes in two parts. If you examine a picture of Helen graduating on the wall, it will mention that she appears to be very pregnant. Next, there’s a picture on the nightstand. This one depicts Helen with a child. You’ll receive a comment saying that the child looks to be about three or four-years-old. Look closer at the picture, and you’ll see that it was taken at Helen’s birthday, with a pair of balloons displaying the age she was in the picture (30).

This means the graduation happened roughly three years previous to her 30th birthday, making her 27 at the time. Add this to her birth date (2025) and you will have the code.

The key you need to enter in the safe is 2052. Input this, and you’ll be able to get in.

Inside is the Long Key. I have no idea why Helen Bridges has this key. It’s used to unlock the gate back into the apartment’s stairwell. Actually, that’s a strange security gate. You normally wouldn’t have something like that in the stairway. Normally, there would be a fire door that shuts automatically rather than a barred door. In fact, the whole apartment complex is rather strange. There is no real lobby. That stairwell does not have an exit to the exterior of the building (you climbed in through a window). Maybe this is one of those abstract Silent Hill-esque environments. I don’t know. Just struck me while I was reviewing my gameplay footage.

Okay, so now that you have the key, you can get back into the stairwell. If you descend back to where you came in, you can use the hammer to break the lock on the cabinet in the staff room. Inside, there’s a card reader that you can use to turn the keycard you have into a master key. If you want to get through the gunked-up door, use the old battery to dissolve the foam (the battery is leaking acid).
