Unearthed by Double Fine Founder and game developer Tim Schafer in what he describes as a fit of “cake-induced nostalgia”, what you are gazing upon is a copy of the Grim Fandango puzzle document, which Schafer worked on along with Eric Ingerson, Bret Mogilefsky, Peter Tsacle, and Peter Chan a few years before the game’s release. Even better, you can go here to download the PDF for yourself. Schafer should eat cake more often.

Tim also shared some thoughts about looking back at the game:

-People said the puzzles in Grim were super hard, and I’ve always maintained that this was due to a deep character flaw or mental illness on the part of the player. But now, reading this again, I’ve realized that holy smokes–Some of them puzzles were nuts. Obscure. Mean, even. I blame Peter Chan, because he will never read this post to know that I blamed him.

Sure, the puzzles were impossibly hard, but that was part of the charm. I remember playing that game like it was yesterday, and I have a feeling by the time I am done paging through this document I’m going to be ready for a replay.
