The Helldivers 2 community is trying to figure out why a mysterious message from the game’s Twitter account refers to someone called Karl and where he is.
Earlier this week, the Helldivers 2 Twitter account shared a post containing binary code that, once translated, references someone called Karl. Since then, players have been struggling to identify this individual and how he relates to the game. However, a development has given us just enough information to go on, pointing to a potential upcoming crossover.
Karl could unite Helldivers 2 and Deep Rock Galactic when his mystery is finally solved
This mystery started with a Twitter post from the Helldviers 2 account containing binary code. The code translates to “Where is Karl?” It’s a question no one in the community has an answer to. The post was quickly deleted and called out as Automaton propaganda by Super Earth via the same account.
Later the same day, though, the Deep Rock Galactic Twitter account also posted binary code, this time as a reply to the Super Earth denial post, and Super Earth responded. This code translates to “We don’t know either.” Speculation about a crossover between the games had already been doing the rounds because the Deep Rock Galactic developers reached out to Arrowhead Game Studios regarding one but hadn’t had a response when it last discussed it.
This is all the information that’s out there at the time of writing, but there’s some additional Deep Rock Galactic lore that might shine a light on who Karl is. According to various lore entries in the game, Karl is a former employee who worked with the Dwarves at some point in the past. There are a lot of theories about who Karl is and what he’s a reference to, but in the context of this Helldivers 2 interaction, he appears to be the same missing employee.
There’s no telling what a crossover between Helldivers 2 and Deep Rock Galactic would look like and which game it would be present in. To date, Helldivers 2 has only received content updates that either improve in-game upgrades or offer new Warbonds to players. Both games treat their characters, Helldivers and Dwarves, as expendable assets, so a crossover would certainly fit in a few ways, but we’ll have to wait to see what comes of this and if we ever get clarification on where Karl is.
