Hasbro and partners Winning Moves have announced plans to launch three new variants of well-loved, classic board games, in time for the holiday season. Risk: Stranger Things, Monopoly: Sonic the Hedgehog, and Monopoly: Hello Kitty are all due to hit shelves by the end of the year and are available to pre-order on some retailer sites.
The classic area control board game, Risk, was launched way back in 1959. Since then, it has seen the launch of multiple variants including Lord of the Rings, Star Wars, and Transformers-themed versions. The most recent launch was 2013’s Risk: Plants vs Zombies, which was a two-player edition in which players played as either of the eponymous groups. Risk: Stranger Things takes place in the town of Hawkins and lets two to five players choose whether to play on the side of good or evil.
To coincide with the launch of the Hello Kitty movie, Hasbro is also launching Monopoly: Hello Kitty. It joins a roster of hundreds of variants of one of the world’s most popular games. The movie is set to release on November 1, so keen players can expect the game to launch at around the same time.
Finally, Hasbro also announced another variant of Monopoly, this time themed on video game hero Sonic the Hedgehog. Players will race around the board in true Sonic style, trading vehicles and characters from the series of games. The game can be played by two to six players and features metal character tokens including Sonic’s shoe and, of course, a gold ring.
