I already miss the beta

I logged a ton of matches in Overwatch over the past week but, coming off the open beta’s closure this morning, I still feel like I could have and should have played more. Gosh, I love this game. I don’t think I’ve so immediately gelled with a class-based shooter since Team Fortress 2, and the two-week wait until the full release on May 24 is going to eat at the back of my mind. Gah.

As part of the launch festivities, Blizzard is hosting an event at Cinemark theaters in the US on the evening of Sunday, May 22. There will be “a collection of Overwatch cinematics, hero trailers, and animated shorts — including two new episodes, featuring the Shimada brothers, Hanzo and Genji, and the masked vigilante, Soldier: 76. As an added bonus, attendees will also get a behind-the-scenes look at the game’s lore and storytelling efforts during a special developer panel hosted by Michele Morrow (not to mention some pretty sweet swag).”

These screenings are already confirmed for select theaters in places like Bellevue, San Francisco, and Plano, but for many participating locations, theaters will need 100 reserved ticket purchases by May 12 before it’s a sure thing. If you sign up and your theater isn’t “unlocked” in time, no big deal, “a refund of your ticket price will be automatically provided.”

I have zero plans to attend one of these showings, but it’s good to know who’s next in line for the animated shorts. They’ve been wonderful so far, and Genji is my #2 bestie after Zenyatta.
