Halo Infinite’s cover art is a loving callback to Combat Evolved

Halo Infinite will be the first Halo game to kick off a generation of Xbox since Combat Evolved launched alongside the original Xbox. That’s right — we’re coming up on 20 years of Xbox, and the second and third generations both launched without support from the flagship franchise.

There are parallels between what Combat Evolved and Infinite mean for the future of Xbox, and developer 343 Industries is drawing direct lines to those similarities. Look no further than the reveal of the Halo Infinite box art.

Ahead of tomorrow’s Xbox Games Showcase stream (and Halo Infinite campaign gameplay reveal), 343 has released the cover art for Halo Infinite. It’s strikingly similar to 2001’s cover art for Halo: Combat Evolved. Master Chief front-and-center. Enemy ships flying in the background. A Halo looming over everything. The new-gen cover comes with a visor lens flare, though. That’s how you know it’s higher quality.
