‘Not just a silly car movie’ says Yamauchi
Polyphony Digital’s Kazunori Yamauchi explained today at gamescom that their newly announced partnership for a full-length Gran Turismo movie didn’t come out of thin air. In fact, he says that studios have been sending them movie offers almost yearly for the last 7 years. But they turn these offers down every time.
What’s different with this one? Yamauchi says that the film, which comes from filmmakers Mike de Luca and Dana Brunetti, won them over with its story of growth and maturity. More specifically, the film will tell the life story of Lucas Ordonez, a racer that got his start playing Gran Turismo, but eventually ended up racing professionally.
Yamauchi says he envisions a film that starts out with a mother that is worried about a son that always plays videogames. He says it should end with this same boy turning into a full-fledged racing champ.
There’s no word on release dates for this film as of yet.
