Doom has been out of the spotlight for a while now — the last I recollect hearing is way back in 2007 when id Software mentioned they were working on a new installment in the series. It’s sure to rise back up as a topic of conversation thanks to recent news that award winning British Fantasy author Graham Joyce has been named as the writer behind Doom 4 (a little bird over at CVG told me).
This raises voices in the argument that Doom doesn’t need a deep, involved storyline, but was best back when the aim of the game was simply about taking on masses of enemies with the nuttiest weaponry you could lay your hands on. I personally prefer story, but can’t deny that sometimes its just satisfying to blow things away.
Of course, this doesn’t mean we will see something playable anytime soon — but would you be hyped to hear Doom 4 formally announced?
