George “Geohot” Hotz has become something of a celebrity for his part in the cracking and distribution of the PlayStation 3’s security code. Thanks to him, many hackers have torn their PS3s apart, and not all of them have done so with noble goals. Hotz, however, accepts no responsibility for nefarious activities in online games.

He did, however, seem to back up Sony’s decision to ban cheaters from the PlayStation Network. Either that, or he backs the cheaters themselves. His writing doesn’t make it entirely clear.

“I have never played PS3 online ever,” said Hotz. “Frankly I’m amazed by the apparent ease with which these cheats were created, security 101, why is the security in the client anyway? I had no idea this would happen, and am in full support of the cheaters being permabanned from PSN.”

Geohot has also asked for monetary support from his followers, requiring donations in order to defend himself from “the hardest hitting lawyers in the business.” He’s already made enough money to pay for his current legal fees, but will possibly ask for more cash later.

“Together, we can help fix the system,” he says.
