Hey guys, I heard Gears of War 2 was popular. Can we get a confirmation on this?
Yes we can, as the new Gears sequel has sold over 2 million copies worldwide during its launch weekend. In addition, 1.5 million Xbox Live members are recorded as having played the game, logging in a record 15 million gameplay hours between them. Gears 2 players may also be interested to know they helped contribute to over 19 million achievements being unlocked since the game was released.
Part of the reason for this huge success naturally has to do with the game’s worldwide release, meaning all territories could buy the game at once. This is something lead designer Cliff Bleszinski is especially proud of.
“We were so excited to launch Gears of War 2 on the same day all around the world, something virtually unheard of in the games business,” explains Cliff. “We wanted our fans, no matter where they live, to have a shared experience on day one, and that’s exactly what’s happened.”
It’s a shame other game makers don’t think that way. After all, look at the huge launches they get to miss out on. Morons.
