Jeff Minter, the man behind the upcoming aural-psychadelia-turned-video-game, Space Giraffe, kicked off the Independent Games Summit, here at GDC just a short while ago. He talked at great length about the upcoming game, and you have to admire the man’s desire to differentiate himself from the rest of the development crowd. He seems absolutely hell-bent on doing things his way, and while we have no idea how successful that route may be, in this case, at the very least, it should make for an interesting development cycle.

Towards the end of his speech, he covered the idea of games as art and how they could possibly capture the hearts of the mainstream, and he firmly believes it’s possible. Of course, he would prefer that the mainstream come to accept games such as his as art, as opposed to the multi-million dollar iterations of Madden that EA expels every year or so.

Also, on a personal note, I desperately want to hide things in Jeff’s beard. Like, tiny race cars and army men and stuff like that. It’s off topic, but if you had seen the man’s beard, you’d understand.
